Slab Cake. This Walnut and Maple Syrup Slab Cake is a great dessert that brings back memories. Very easy to make and will stay fresh for a few days. Enjoy this walnut and maple syrup slab cake !
Ingredients Slab Cake
- Icing sugar
- Maple syrup (60ml)
- Salt (½ teaspoon)
- Bicarbonate of soda (1 teaspoon)
- Baking powder (1 teaspoon)
- Plain flour (300g)
- Sour cream (240g)
- Eggs (2)
- Vanilla bean paste (1 teaspoon)
- Caster sugar (220g)
- Softened butter (100 gram)
Topping Slab Cake
- Finely chopped walnuts (150g)
- Chopped chilled butter (50 gram)
- Ground cinnamon (2 teaspoons)
- Quick oats (65g)
Instructions Slab Cake
- Bring out your slice pan and grease it while you preheat your oven to 170°C.
- Use baking powder to line the long sides and base, making the paper reach the sides by 3cm.
- Next, put the cinnamon and oats in a medium bowl, add nuts and butter, then stir.
- Set your electric mixer bowl and add the vanilla, sugar, and butter inside, then beat till everything mixes well, which takes about 3 minutes.
- Bring out your pan and put half of the mixture at the top base of the pan.
- Use half of the topping for sprinkling, add some maple syrup alongside small spoonfuls of the leftover cake mix, then spread.
- You can add all the toppings if you wish. Then put in the oven and allow to bake until an inserted skewer comes out clean. This usually takes about 40-45 minutes.
- Bring out the cake from the oven, then allow it to cool off in the pan. You can add the sifted icing sugar after you cut the cake into pieces or before.
